Commercial Vehicle Locksmith
Shrewsbury
A car with no key is a nuisance. A lorry with no key is a job that does not get delivered. William Church is a truck locksmith and a mobile commercial vehicle locksmith covering Shrewsbury. He works on trucks, tippers and minibuses, the larger business vehicles a standard car locksmith cannot programme.

One Person, One Number, One Visit
A business does not want a call centre and a reference number. It wants to know who is coming and when the vehicle moves again. William Church answers the phone, quotes the job and does the work. There is no handover and no sub-contractor in between.
He is DBS checked and carries £1 million of public liability cover, which most sites and depots ask to see before anyone works on the yard. WAC is SERMI registered too. That is the Europe-wide scheme letting approved independents reach manufacturer security data.
The service is mobile. A loaded truck does not need to be recovered to a workshop. The work happens at your yard, at the depot or wherever the vehicle stopped.
Which Vehicles This Page Covers
This page is for the vehicles bigger or more specialist than a standard van. That means trucks and HGVs from DAF, Scania, MAN, Volvo, Iveco, Renault Trucks and Mercedes-Benz. It also means tippers, dropsides, Luton bodies, minibuses, coaches, horseboxes, welfare units and recovery vehicles.
These are not car keys with a bigger badge. Programming a transponder on a heavy goods vehicle needs software that most automotive locksmiths do not carry. That is why a business often gets turned down by the first firm it calls. Cab locks, ignition barrels and load area locks are different hardware again.
If every key has gone, the job changes shape. The code then has to be read from the vehicle. That is an all keys lost job, so say it on the phone.
Commercial Key Jobs WAC Carries Out
The registration and the body type decide the route. Send both and you get a straight answer on whether the job is supported before anyone travels.
Replacement Keys
A new key cut and coded for the cab. Trucks, tippers, minibuses and horseboxes are all normal work.
Cab Lockouts
Entry without damage when the key is shut inside. No broken glass and no bill for a new door card.
Business Spare Keys
A second key made while the first still works. This is the cheap version of every other job on this page.
Key Programming
Transponders and remotes coded to the vehicle, including makes that need heavy vehicle software.
Multi-Vehicle Work
Several vehicles handled in one visit to the yard, which costs less per vehicle than calling out five times.

What Travels In The Van
Heavy vehicle transponders need software that a car-only locksmith does not carry. That is the honest reason a business gets turned away by the first firm it rings. William carries seven programming platforms plus the cutting gear. That is what makes a one visit finish possible on most vehicles.
Security hardware travels too. Slam locks, load area locks and an Ecotrak S5 deadlock can be fitted at the same visit as a key. Background on the data access scheme sits at Official SERMI UK information.
Cut and coded on site for cabs and commercial bodies, on vehicles from 3.5 tonnes upwards.
Made while the original still works, which is the cheapest and quickest version of the job.
Transponder programming for car, van and heavy vehicle systems. Seven platforms travel in the van.
Non-destructive cab entry and load area entry. Nothing is drilled and no window is broken.
A snapped blade is extracted from the door or the ignition barrel, and a fresh key is cut to match.
DAF, Scania, MAN, Volvo, Iveco, Renault Trucks and Mercedes-Benz cabs, plus tippers and minibuses.
Several vehicles keyed and recorded in one visit, so the yard is not calling out one job at a time.
A loaded vehicle is not recovered to a workshop. The work happens at the yard, the depot or the roadside.
A Standing Vehicle Costs More Than The Key
Downtime is the number that matters, and it is bigger than most people expect. Research by Mercedes-Benz Vans asked 500 senior decision makers. A vehicle off the road costs a typical UK firm £1,172 a day. In manufacturing it reached £2,161. In construction it was £1,464. The typical fleet lost more than six days to disruption over the year.
The RAC asked 500 businesses running 3.5 tonne vans up to 44 tonne HGVs. They put the cost at up to £300 a day and £7,200 a year. It also found 41% of firms have a commercial vehicle off the road at least twice a month. Against those figures, a replacement key is a small one-off number.
Where a vehicle carries stock or tools, the same visit is a good moment to look at a vehicle tracking system. Once a vehicle is gone, recovery matters as much as replacement.
How A Commercial Job Runs

Work at the yard
Keys are cut, coded and tested where the vehicle stands.
Plan the rest
Remaining vehicles are booked together rather than one at a time.
Five Calls William Takes Most Weeks
Truck Locked Out
The cab key is inside and the load is due. Entry is non-destructive and the vehicle moves the same day.
One Key Per Vehicle
Common and expensive. A spare made now costs a fraction of a lost day later on.
Driver Leaves
A key walks off with a former driver. The old key is deleted so it no longer starts the vehicle.
Remote Stops Working
The fob is tested before anything is replaced. Coding it again is often enough and costs less.
Several Vans Need Spares
Booked as one visit to the yard, which is cheaper per vehicle than five separate call-outs.
What Changes The Price Of A Job
The key type sets the floor. The 2026 Checkatrade cost guide puts a transponder key at £240. A keyless entry key is £280 and a remote key is £320. The UK average across all types is £240. Heavy vehicle work sits above car work, because the software and the access are different.
Booking several vehicles together brings the cost per vehicle down, since one visit covers them all. A planned spare is always cheaper than an emergency replacement, for the same vehicle and the same key. That is the whole argument for doing it before the key goes missing.
William quotes on the registration before anyone travels, so the figure is exact rather than a range. Fuller figures by key type sit on the car key replacement cost page.
